torontoShopoholic News, Issue #013 -- Where are you doing your Toronto Shopping?
January 14, 2010

This is the latest from torontoShopoholic News

As the end of January looms many retailers will start to slowly bring in spring merchandise.

And while it is hard to imagine wearing airy tops and lighter layers when it is minus 15 and snowing, it is a good time to look at spring 2010 trends.

Three trends that have been prevalent on the runways, will be easy to work into your wardrobe now and are completely wearable are what Style.com is calling “clean energy”, “marching orders” and “pattern play”.

Clockwise from the top. Military inspired jacket, $160 Topshop; patterned top, $265 DVF; leaf printed blouse, $158.48 Anthropologie; patterned skirt DVF (not yet available); Military inspired jacket, $60 Buckle; white dress, $1,395 Calvin Klein.

Clean Energy is simply dressing crisp, clean and minimalistic. This look is white on white, or white with khaki and few if any accessories. Only what you need. It is tailored and crisp.

Wearing this now could seem hard when warmer fabrics like wool don’t often come off as tailored. But if you pair a tone on tone you can get the same effect.

Look for pieces with interesting details and tailoring. The clothes need to speak for themselves since you are not dressing them up with accessories.

Marching Orders is army inspired head to toe. Start by incorporating army green.

But just wearing cargos doesn’t mean you are on trend. This year the military look has gone upscale.

The army jackets are tailored at the waist, have a strong shoulder and are paired with skirts and floaty dresses.

Pattern Play is all about graphic pattern. Last year’s floral is back, but it is mixed and matched with other, any other pattern.

If you aren’t going to wear pattern head to toe, as this can be tricky to pull off without looking like your crazy Aunt Maude, make sure you add a patterned top to your wardrobe.

You can stick to floral or go with another bold graphic.

Another item you can’t go wrong with adding or reincorporating into your wardrobe is stripes.

But not just any old stripes, navy French inspired stripes. They seem to be everywhere.

Right now use a striped tee as your base layering item and have it peak through your outer layers.

Where we are doing our Toronto Shopping

Seraphic Seraphic is a new boutique in the Queen West Fashion district. It is a breath of fresh air amongst the shops catering to twenty-somethings dying for the next pair of $300 jeans.
