From Toys r Us to Mastermind
From stores specializing in young children and babies
To strategy games for teens and adults.
You are bound to find what you are looking for if you head to the right Toronto shopping neighbourhood.
I don't wanna grow up, because if I did I wouldn't be a Toys R Us kid!
Well that jingle might date me as a kid of the 80's but Toys R Us is still the default Toronto toy store if you are looking for a big brand toy, or looking to register for a baby shower at a store most people across the country will have access.
Toys R Us has a great online store which frequently has deals on shipping for those who don't have easy access to a bricks and mortar location.
The pros of shopping here are that if it is mainstream and widely popular they will have it, though not necessarily for the best price.
The cons of shopping here are that you aren't going to find any one of a kind or specialty items that you will find at some of the smaller boutique opperations.
Neighbourhood: Yonge & Elginton
Mastermind Toys
This Toronto mini chain has locations across the city and the GTA.
Specializing in educational toys Mastermind is always on the forefront of what is the next 'it' toy.
I am always amazed by the store windows that are full of life sized stuffed animals. What kid wouldn't love an life sized jungle cat or Kangaroo?
Mastermind also has a fantastic online store with free shipping, within Canada on orders over $75.
Neghbourhood: Davisville, the Beaches, Yonge Lawrence Village plus locations in Etobicoke, the Ontario Science Center and across the GTA.
You may not initially think toys when you think of Indigo books, but there is actually a great selection of plush animals to choose from. My favourites are the Jelly Cat stuffed animals. Plus the interactive books with music and sound are a fantastic way to get kids reading and stimulate brain development.
Looking for classic board games, strategy games and cards? This is your best bet. Even hard to find German board games or obscure versions of monopoly.
Neighbourhood: Davisville
Cate & Levi
This Toronto based company makes the most adorable organic stuffed animals from recycled wool sweaters.
Each animal is one of a kind as they are made from reclaimed wool. I fell in love with these and bought two for our daughter.
There are any number of animals from hippos and rabbits to frogs and giraffes. There are even hand puppets - my favourite a walrus!
You can find Cate & Levi animals at Baby on the Hip, Kids on the Hip and Mable's Fables in Toronto.
Almost every Toronto shopping neighbourhood I have visited has a Toy store or gift shop with
great toys. Check out these neighbourhoods for Toronto Toy stores.
