The Toronto Mens clothing landscape is much diluted when compared with
women's options.
Whether it be men are more loyal to a smaller number of stores, or they
really just don't shop as much one thing is for sure there is less
selection.
That being said men do have one advantage over women's boutiques, their
seemingly endless options of formal career wear from places like
specialty bespoke shops to chain stores.
Toronto Mens Clothing Boutiques
Amongst the sea of women's boutiques there are those for men as well.
This is a list of dedicated mens boutiques in Toronto. The most options
seem to be concentrated in West Queen West.
The Source Fine Mens
Apparel - Leaside You will find a mixture of sportswear,
denim and tailored suits in this small Leaside shop.
Addosso Umo
- Yonge Lawrence - Custom and off the rack Italian shirts.
Korry's Clothiers -
Danforth - This east end shop is notorious for its advertisements on The
Edge. But the clothing is everything they mention. Brands like Canali
and Boss; sportswear, golf wear and suits.
Studio We! Mens
- Leslieville - This shop is more weekend, casual and hipster when
compared with many others on this list. This is the second location,
found a bit further east of the women's shop.
Boomer -
Queen West - This shop has been on Queen West since the 80's and
provides a more sophisticated bent on dressing than most of its
neighbours. Think suits and sportswear; high style.
Fred Perry - West
Queen West- part London street culture, part preppy. Expect to find
plenty of laurel wreathed pique polos, zip ups and khakis.
Oliver Spencer
- West Queen West - this is another UK import with a similar aesthetic
albeit a bit more tailored and fashion forward than the aforementioned
Fred Perry.
Sydneys -
West Queen West - this modern menswear shop carries some high end denim
as well as their own Kin label.
Klaxon Howl -
West Queen West - This shop offers a mix of vintage and new casual
duds. Think hipsters in double denim or a cool vintage leather jacket.
Green Shag -
this is a bespoke shop that caters to the West Queen West crowd. Custom
shirts & suits.
Simon Carter
- West Queen West - another UK transplant, this is the only Simon Cater
location in Canada. Shirts for the modern dandy, suits and ties.
Gino's Mens & Boys
+ a couple other Italian mens boutiques - Corso Italia - these shops
come off as a bit dated but are one stop shops for men and boys and you
can get European brands not found elsewhere in the city.
Uncle Otis -
Yorkville - a quarter of the stock is Canadian at this shop
stocking stylish basics. Lots of raw denim and cooler than cool tees.
Anti Hero -
Yorkville - stocking a mix of big designer names like D&G and
McQueen with under the radar brands you can find suits, sportswear and
casual weekend clothing.
GotStyle - King & Bathurst
Jerome's - Yonge & Eglinton
Off the Cuff - Yonge & Eglinton - Men's Designer resale.
Also watch for tailors that offer bespoke shirts and suit options. You
will find these in Yorkville plus old world neighbourhoods like Corso
Italia and the Danforth.
Toronto Mens Clothing Chains
Harry Rosen
- this is one of the few mall stores to exclusively cater to men. There
is even an outlet in Mississauga at the Heartland Center.
Banana Republic
-
Usually the men's section of Banana Republic is stuck in with all the
womens, but at the Eaton Center there is a dedicated men's store.
Nomad -
this boutique has 2 Toronto locations plus an online shop.
This shop is a mix of heritage brands, emerging designers and
established fashion labels.
Buckler -
With only one Toronto location you might wonder why I put this Toronto mens clothing shop in
the chain category. There are in fact 3 Buckler locations worldwide,
with one in New York and one in London England in addition to our West
Queen West shop. Designed by Andrew Buckler this line is fashion
forward casual wear.
On top of dedicated mens stores most chain shops and department stores
carry both mens and womens selection. Just like for Women the best
location for mens department store shopping is the Bay at Queen.
Keep in mind that there is less selection for men than women in most of
these chain shops that cater to both sexes.
Toronto Mens Clothing - Sport
Men seem to be more interested in high performance clothing for sports.
There is some selection at sporting goods stores but these shops offer
even more selection.
Higher Ground - Yonge & Eglinton - it might be a unisex boutique but it is all about sport and outdoor activities.
Other shops like Golf Town, Sporting Life and National Sports offer
lots of mens selection for a variety of sports. The beauty with these
shops is they tend to have great selection on and off season.
Where to find a High Quality Men's Briefcase in Toronto
Finding a high quality mens briefcase is as simple as finding a retailer that sells high quality leather goods.
One of the first places that spring to mind are the luggage specialty shops on the lower level of the Manulife Center.
Also on Bloor street you will be able to find mens briefcases at Roots, Cole Haan and Harry Rosen.
Roots
briefcases are the most casual looking whereas Harry Rosen has the most
luxurious selection. Check out the Harry Rosen Outlet in Mississauga
for deals.
You should also find some selection in Holt Renfrew's Mens Shop.
For
the most part any shop that specializes in leather, will have a
selection of Mens briefcases. So try places like Danier or Rudsak for
Made in Canada options.
A couple of other options in Yorkville are Betty Hemmings and Taschen.
Betty
Hemmings has over 300 styles of leather briefcases. They source the
best leathergoods from all over the world. The best part is Betty
Hemmings services everything they sell. So even if the lock breaks 10
years down the road they can fix it.
