Toronto Flea Markets range from including
everything from gourmet food and local veggies, to handmade creations,
antiques and dollar store like novelties.
The key is the mix of types of stalls, distinguishing flea markets from
seasonal farmers markets or antiques markets which are much more
focused on food or vintage furniture.
Few of these flea markets are open daily but rather pack in crowds on
Saturdays and Sundays only. Here are the top 5 Toronto Flea Markets.
1. St. Lawrence Market
- There are over 120 specialty vendors sellingeverything
from meats and cheese to handmade soaps and vinyl recordsat this
former City Hall. More farmers market than flea market because of the
overwhelming emphasis on food, the St.
Lawrence Market still has a flea market vibe with its unique
non food items but seems to avoid the traditional cheesy-ness of many
other flea markets. The South Market is open Tues-Sat. The Sunday
Market is in the north building and is an antiques market.
2. Dr. Flea's
- Touted as the largest of Toronto's flea markets, this market is found
at Hwy 27 and Albion Rd, has over 400 vendors with free admission and
free parking. It is only open Saturdays and Sundays from 10-5. Expect
crowds - this flea market gets over ten thousand visitors each weekend!
3. Toronto WestonFleaMarket- Found at 404
Old Weston Road this flea market also boasts free parking and free
admission. There are over 200 vendors in 60,000 square feet. There is
an outdoor food market in spring through fall with plenty of local
produce. Aside from the food court however there isn't a large presence
of food vendors.
4. Downsview Park
Merchants Market - With over 600 vendors I am not sure why
this isn't Toronto's largest flea market? Still they have a variety of
vendors from produce and other food vendors, to housewares, electronics
and even an antiques market. Open Saturdays and Sundays from 10-6, it
is found at the north end of Downsview Park off Sheppard Ave just east
of Keele.
5. Fantastic Flea Market
- Open weekends as part of the Dixie
Outlet Mall,
this flea market has been around for 32 years. Don't
expect much in the way of food vendors. Open weekends 10-5.
Honorable mentions go to the numerous flea market options in the GTA.
You can find flea markets everywhere from the 400 Market to markets in
Pickering, Brampton and Whitby.
