The top 5 wedding registries for Toronto include
more than just the most obvious department store choices. Boutiques and
travel agencies offer a different twist on the same old registry items.
That said depending on where your guests are coming from it may be a no
brainer as to where you register for wedding gifts.
Keep in mind that it is unlikely that out of towners will drive into
Toronto to shop off your boutique registry.
So as an alternative find a shop that has an e-store or register at
more than one place. Make sure that one has a national presence.
1. The Bay -
The Bay wedding registry is probably the best known and most active of
this entire list. That is why it is number 1 of my top 5 wedding registries.
It is easy for people across the country, or anyone
with an Internet connection to shop off of The Bay gift registry. Plus if you end up with
gift cards for The
Bay department store you can pool them together for big
ticket items like a new flat screen, electric mixer or (shhh don't
tell) a new pair of boots.
Don't forget that other department store favourites like Sears or Home
Outfitters also offer a wedding registry and because of their national
presence these are also a good option for weddings with alot of out of
towners.
2. William Ashley
- If your registry is centered around the best china why not go
straight to the source. William Ashley has the largest selection of
brand name china and has a huge selection of patterns. This Bloor
Street store is complimented by an online registry that guests can
purchase from via phone, in store or online.
3. Pottery Barn
- The Pottery Barn wedding registry is a great choice if you are more
interested in home decor rather than electronics and kitchen gadgets.
Similar stores like William Sonoma (for the kitchen goddess) and Crate
& Barrel (home decor again, lower price points) also offer
wedding registries. These big American chains are only found in large
Canadian centres so great for Torontonians but maybe not for those
outside the GTA. 4. Urban Mode
- this Toronto boutique offers unique gift ideas. There is an online
store but the registry management does not appear to be online so those
that can not shop in Toronto would have to call in and shop via phone.
5. ehoneymoonregistry.com -
For those couples that already have a house full of things but want the
monetary gifts directed to the ultimate honeymoon this is an excellent
resource. Remember that it can be touchy to flat out ask for money or
contributions to a honeymoon wedding registry. Etiquette would suggest
phrasing
"contributions welcome" so that it is understood that it isn't expected
for all guests to put a deposit towards your honeymoon.
The best way to get exactly what you want is to register at a mix of
your top 5 wedding registries; try to include a national chain. Remember items are
returnable at the big department stores for gift cards you can use for
other home essentials.
Also understand that everyone has a different budget so scan items at a
range of price points for your registry. Remember that newer
traditions like a honeymoon registry might not fly with older guests so
phrase your registry requests appropriately.
