Toronto's top 5 European shopping neighbourhooods
remind us of the amazing diversity of this city.
In fact you can easily have a successful staycation in Toronto by just
visiting anywhere from Greektown or Corso Italia and experiencing great
food and of course great shopping.
If you are coming to Toronto this year on vacation why not get a second
(or third or fourth!) vacation experience by visiting one of these
European influenced neighbourhoods.
1. Greektown
- Found on Danforth Ave, Greektown might be better known for its open
air patios in the summer but there is fabulous shopping as well. Its a great
spot to get some baklava, christening gowns and party dresses.
Neighbouring hood the Danforth (often used interchangeably with
Greektown although they do refer to different stretchs of Danforth Ave)
houses some great local designers and more boutiques.
2. Corso Italia
- More authentically Italian than Little Italy on College, this
neighbourhood also has much more shopping. Corso Italia is a great spot for brides and
bridesmaids on the hunt for dresses.
3. Roncesvalles
- The heart of the Polish community has amazing perogies at Cafe Polenz
plus shops line the east side of Roncesvalles from Dundas to Queen.
4. Bloor Street
- Although Bloor isn't obviously European you can't leave it off the
list as is home to countless European fashion houses. Plus those that
don't have a flagship store are found at Holt Renfrew.
5. Little Portugal
- Lots of Portuguese bakeries to choose from plus shoes from Cristal
Shoes Boutique show us that even the Portugese have amazing European
sense of style. A bonus is the easy access to all the vintage shopping
on Ossington south from Dundas to Queen.
Honerable mentions go to Little Italy for obvious reasons although this
is the more Canadian-ized version of Toronto's Italian hoods, which is
why I left it off the top 5. Also Yonge & St. Clair, ONLY for
Shoesette however, which carries some of the most fantastic European
shoes the city has to offer.
