Ok
ok, the Salvage Shop is really in Scarborough not Toronto.
But if you are renovating a century home like us, it is a gem for
finding antique doors and knobs that fit the style of the house.
Whether you are looking for a beautiful floor grate or want some knobs
to up-cycle a dresser this is a great place for salvage.
I was wowed by how ornate the restored knobs were, they truly are
works of art.
There is everything from door knobs stripped of their paint and drawer
pulls restored to their former glory.
The mantel surrounding our fire place is a bit small and has no wow
factor.
There were a few that we saw here that looked to be the right size but
had more detail and would work in our home.
Note to self bring exact measurments next time!
Floor grates often get over looked. But I find the modern ones that are
all through our house are neither stylish nor fit the decor.
I think going back to something that would have originally been in the
home would suit our house alot better.
Or if you want another way to show off these grates use them as a table
top or as an alternative to stained glass show piece.
***Update
- I went back to source a floor grate for my house. I was expecting to
have help finding one that would fit or that they were organized
according to size. This wasn't the case. I did find on that fit
perfectly but I would suggest bringing your own tape measure so you can
go through one by one finding what you need. ***
There is more to the shop than just antique doors and knobs. There is
furniture too.
Make sure that you look everywhere from the basement to the adjoining
rooms for what you may be searching for as there is stuff EVERYWHERE.
I love old quilts and bedding and spent more time than I want to admit looking at these from Euphemia Too.
The owners wife brings in these antique "salvaged" quilts, wool blankets and chenille.
There are sizes ranging from full to baby.
The Salvage Shop is found along Kingston Road almost at Warden.
