How to make Mommy Chic
For many of us mommy chic
is a phrase we understand in
theory but don’t know how to implement in practice.
How often do you walk
around in sweats, too big tees and hoodies? Worried about washing
baby’s bottom
before washing your hair?
It’s time to change the
way you think about dressing
whether you are a new mom or a mom of many. Its time to put on your
chic mom clothes.
Inspired by Lucky
Magazine’s month of outfits, I am going to
create seven days of Mom friendly outfits.
These are easy wash 'n
wear pieces
that are as simple as jeans and tees but look infinitely better.
Day
1

There
are two lessons in the Day 1 outfit.
The first is
don't be
afraid of skinny jeans. Just know what to pair them with!
Add a floaty top and some great flats and you are set.
Lesson 2 is to
upscale
your tees with print and cut.
You could pair a plain old white tee with this outfit but the print
packs more punch.
This
chic mom on the go look is finished off with a suede jacket and a fun
bag that is big enough to store extra diapers, bottles and snacks.

Day
2
Day 2 has an important lesson. You can
wear something other than jeans!
I need to remind myself of this regularly.
But as a mom you want to stick with something that is easy to wash so a
cotton
twill chino works best.
Pair a simple chino with basics but with a twist, the secret to mommy
chic.
The sleeve on the wool blend tee and the cape add personality.
The flat boot and hobo are practical but luxurious, very mommy chic.

Day
3

Day 3
illustrates that
simple
elements like a cardi and a tank don't have to be boring or sloppy.
The bold yellow stripe makes the cardigan fun.
The
jacket resembles a hoodie but because it isn't constructed out of
sweatshirt material it holds its shape much better. And the yellow
buttons add a bit of whimsy.
The trouser jean is an essential for your wardrobe. The cut is super
flattering plus this shape makes jeans much dressier.

Day
4

As the
weather gets warmer it is tempting to throw on your favourite studded
gladiators and wear shorter tees.
But this is Canada after all and it isn't that crazy for us to get a
snow storm in May!
It isn't mommy chic to shiver when the temperature drops.
It is easy to be prepared for any weather when you carry a purse that
you can
pack your
favourite cardi, a change of shoes and even an umbrella
just in case.

Day 5

The
lesson today is how easily you can
transform
a simple outfit with accessories.
Jeans a tank and a sweater isn't much of an outfit (although the
sleeves
on that sweater are gorgey no?)
But add the belt to define your waist, add a great shoe and you are
set.
Make
sure you don't do too many accessories in the same colour. You to be
Mommy Chic not too matchy matchy. Instead
try tone on tone,
co-ordinating colours.

Day 6

Neutrals
are the foundation of any outfit. But all neutrals can be bland and
washed out.
Pair neutrals with pops
of colour to break up your outfit.
A green shoe or a printed tee add your personality to an outfit.

Day 7

By now
you will have noticed that
you
don't need a huge wardrobe to create plenty of outfits.
Just mix and match tieing pieces together with similar colour pallets.
You
can mix different prints as long as there is a common element. Take
this tee and cardi for example, the yellow in each ties them together!

Accessories

You might have noticed
that jewelery is missing from these outfits. How un - Mommy Chic!
As a mom to a one year old with grabby hands I have been wearing alot
of chunky less breakable jewelery lately.
I also like styles that I can easily move from my neck to my daughter's
- she loves to play dress up!
Remember pair gold jewelery with warmer tones and black and silver
jewels with cooler tones.
This post is brought to us by
Stella
& Dot stylist Stephanie Clark who hand picked these
get
gorgeous items to jazz up the outfits above.
Items clockwise from the top: La
Coco Brooch Necklace (also available in silver) Stella

alone, wear 2 or 3 stacked together

No
now you can see how easy it is to go from shlumpy Mom, to Mommy Chic.
Yes it takes a bit more effort but it will be worth it.
