Mercer and Prince; gifts, decor at Yonge & Eglinton
In a neighbourhood better known for clothing
shops, Mercer and Prince is breaking the mold by focusing instead on
Home Decor and gifts.
The sleek black and white exterior plus a name inspired by the New York
Soho neighbourhood.
What's inside could easily be sold at Teatro Verde, Union Lighting or
countless specialty paper shops.
There is a staggering variety at this shop. but at no time does it seem
like this variety is misplaced or tying to be to many things at once.
Instead it feels like Mercer & Prince is giving you options. I
could see the topiaries and garden ornaments just as easily outfitting
a modern condo balcony as the lighting would hang in the interior of
that same condo.
The home accents found at this boutique could easily grace the pages of
House & Home or be that perfect accessory in a more than
perfect Rosedale mansion.
Prices are competitive too, with many items priced better than
neighbouring shops like Restoration Hardware.
If you are shopping for someone elses abode, maybe for a housewarming
or looking for a hostess gift, Mercer & Prince has stationary
and gift wrap to complete the gift giving purchase.
The selection isn't as extensive as some of the other paper shops in
the neighbourhood but there are enough fancy papers, cards and gift
bags to keep you from wandering down the street out of need.
What I liked best about this Yonge & Eglinton shop is that it
didn't have any of the pretentiousness that many of the city's high end
decor boutiques have.
The sales staff was incredibly friendly. I am more used to being
ignored as a shopper, or approached in a I need to make a commission
kind of way. So being engaged in easy going conversation is refreshing.
See for yourself, Mercer & Prince is open seven days a week,
open 11am on Sundays.
