Shopping for Children in Toronto

The best areas in Toronto to find kids clothing and shoes are often those that are close to neighbourhoods that have plenty of families.

From babies to preschoolers and tweens, kids grow fast and need clothing that can handle alot of wear and tear.

Toronto has everything from baby boutiques, kids resale and designer kids clothing.

Kids Boutique Clothing

Of course you can shop all the mall favourites like GAP Kids, Old Navy, and H&M but you will never find the pretty European inspired clothes for preschoolers or super trendy kids clothing you find at boutiques. Most of these boutiques also sell a small selection of shoes.

Chateau de Sable -  Yonge & Eglinton - from infants to a childs size 14 this brand is designed in France and oozes European style

Olly - Yonge & Eglinton - Shoes from brands like crocs to Lacoste. These are shoes for tiny feet.

Hatley - Yonge & Eglinton - this brand is pure Canadiana. Cute pjs and lounge wear inspired by nature with cute prints.

Beatties - Eglinton West -  It maybe North America's supplier of Private School Uniforms but the Eglinton West boutique is about well dressed families, and school uniforms too.

Groms - Leaside - An action sports lifestyle shop has kids clothing and shoes for youths into skating, surfing, and boarding. Brands like Hurley, Billabong, Burton, Emerica, Volcom and Element.

Monka Collection - Dundas West -  special occasion kids clothing never looked so modern. Without looking like christening wear or something only a flower girl would wear this boutique has something for parties and pictures and well the other stuff I mentioned too.

Kids Resale Clothing

Kids resale is a great way to clean out your closet or fill your closet at a fraction of the full retail price. Selection is best for babies but you can find clothing all the way up to preschoollers at most of these shops.

Designer Kids Clothing

Higher Ground Kids -  This is the sister store to Higher Ground and while the adult store is all about outdoor clothing and gear, Higher Ground for Kids is all about designer brands. Look for Burberry, Juicy Couture, Ben Sherman, for Babies to Tweens.

Plus size Kids Clothing

Not all kids are small and slight. But just like adults, kids clothing comes in standard sizing. And just because a child might be bigger than their classmates it doesn't mean the next size up will fit, or even moving to adult sizes.

Few stores cater to Plus size kids but you can find plus sizes at the Gap and Old Navy. Other brands like Osh Kosh fit larger than other brands.

Tweens should look to the juniors section. While it might be adult clothing, juniors notoriously fits small for adults which is exactly what a young teen might need.

Kids Clothing and Shoes - Chains stores

Of course most of us aren't doing all our shopping at pricey boutiques for everday kids clothing. Many favourite kid brands are available at Toronto Malls like the Eaton Center and Yorkdale.

Stores like Baby GAP, GAP kids, Old Navy, The Childrens Place, Gymboree are found at the mall and along Bloor street or the Shops at Don Mills. You can also find kids at H&M, Zara and even a small selection at Anthropologie.

You will have to go further afield if you want to shop at Carters or Bonnie Togs, these stores are only in the GTA. Joe Fresh kids  section is at select locations like the Don Mills & Eglinton Superstore, or the Victoria Park and Millwood Laird  Loblaws. You will not find kids at the Studio Concept stores.
