Kid Culture is bringing the old school back. Hand
made dresses for little girls, knitted outfits for babies and up cycled
toys.
And yet even though the hyper local clothing makes this shopper
nostalgic for days gone by, the effect is something thoroughly modern.
Parents bring your kids along on this shopping trip because they can
stay entertained in the play area in the back while you fall in love
with the clothes.
Sourcing most of the kids clothing, boys and girls sizes 0 - 12, from
Toronto, including owner Clare Raman's own line Buttercup Days, this
shop gives shopping local a whole new meaning.
Find cat tees from designer Cathy Peng, easy to wear jumpers from Red
Thread Designs and Tiny Modernist, fun printed jackets (see below) from
Rare Birds clothing.
If you are sad because no one in your family has the talents to provide
your baby with hand knit goodies check out the coordinated outfits from
CC Creations or the knitted capes from Vintage Baby Revival.
There are even crochet puppets from Cruppets.
All from Toronto and the GTA.
And the cute stuff isn't just for babies and girls. Boys can bring out
their inner super hero or cowboy with printed tees, hoodies and
sweatshirts that are just as fun as the dresses and tutus for girls.
While I was taking a look around the shop there were two men shopping
for their niece and nephew.
Kid Culture doesn't come off as a traditional gifty boutique but if you
want to shake up a kids wardrobe and add an influx of quirky fun to all
that GAP Kids conformity this is the place to shop.
I think what I liked especially is that baby stuff doesn't take center
stage. Yes you can find onsies from SORAD, and fun cowboy printed
stroller muffs, its really the preschool and big kid stuff that sets
this shop apart from many children's boutiques in the city.
Kid Culture is open in the Junction the following hours:
Monday - Saturday 10 am - 6 pm
Sunday 12 am - 5 pm
