Club Monaco Clothing; fabulous clothes & a Canadian
history
Club
Monaco Clothing started out in 1985 on West Queen West
Created by Joe Mimram now of Joe
Fresh fame and designed by
Alfred Sung, the chain was Canadian until sold in 1999 to Polo Ralph
Lauren.
I remember when everyone had to have a Club Monaco crest sweatshirt in
the early 1990's. Now the brand is more likely to sell cashmere
sweaters and wearable interpretations of the latest trends for fashion
forward career women.
I sometimes forget that Club Monaco doesn't have a large presence
outside of large cities. Club Monaco stores are so prevelant here in
Toronto with a location at many of Toronto's malls plus stores on Queen
West, Bloor Street and Yonge & Eglinton.
It is also gone international with locations in the US, Hong Kong,
Saudi Arabia and Singapore.
Club Monaco designs are
known for their neutral pallet and urban feel.
Colour is injected into the collection sparingly. Only a few peices
will be a signature colour for the collection.
Club Monaco prices are moderate. Cheaper than major designer fashions
but peices can still run you between $100 - $300 depending on what you
are shopping for.
Recently collaborations have brought velvet ballet flats from Sigerson
Morrison, Jeans from Levis, vintage jewellery and sunglasses.
I find that I tend to shop at Club Monaco for suits because their
jackets fit petite frames better than other brands. I also love their
leather accessories.
Club Monco clothing is great if you want to be on trend but not look
overly trendy. You can find great classic peices that fit everything
from a work environment to a casual urban weekend style.
Club Monaco Toronto locations are all over the city with the flagship
store at Bloor and Avenue.
