Carlaw Avenue was once home to factories. Back
when Leslieville
was the industrial hub of Toronto.
Now Leslieville
is up and coming (read: trendy) and the factories, everything from an
old Wrigly Gum factory to a printing factory, are converted
to lofts.
These lofts either have ground floor retail space housing one of
Toronto's hot bridal boutiques or live work space for artists and
designers.

While
I am constantly surprised at how much shopping is found along Carlaw
Ave don't get the wrong idea.
This area still has a very industrial feel. Its very gritty, both
literally with the most recent condo development stirring up dust and
figuratively.
Its also impossible to window shop so make an effort to go into the
loft spaces and take a look around otherwise you will feel like you
wasted your time.
If you want a true boutique experience head further south and start
walking Queen Street East.
