Body Blue Denim Lab; a jean bar with selection from skinny to wide, low to high!

Body Blue Denim Lab is a denim specialty shop in Toronto. I decided to test out the service in my search for a flattering non-skinny jean.

It seems these days wherever I look I only see skinny jeans.

Most stores have eliminated anything wider than a boot cut or boyfriend and none have the sophistication of the trouser.

So I tweeted the other day asking in a sea of skinnies who is making a great wide legged jean?

Turns out there are alot out there you just have to shop in the right place!

I had heard the service was excellent at Body Blue but I really didn't know what to expect.

I had been to other jean bars in the city and was usually ignored. I don't fit the usual demographic of either a twenty-something nor fabulously wealthy.

But when I walked into Body Blue looking somewhat overwhelmed by the wall to wall jeans a sales person immediately asked me if I needed help.

Body Blue Denim Lab is set up similar to Toronto's finer lingerie shops in that it is better for the sales staff to pull the jeans and have you try them on until you find something perfect.

I started out describing what I wanted. But I didn't do a great job.

At first I was trying on straight legged jeans which were skinnier than what I wanted. Once I stated more a trouser fit Laura (my helper) started pulling exactly what I wanted.

We got it down to three brands, David Kahn, Fidelity and Seven for all Mankind.

Each fit great but I would never have been able to pull them myself.

The David Kahn's fit large so I went down a size to a 29 or 8. The Fidelity and Seven's fit small so I was up 2 sizes to a 32 or 12.

It didn't matter though because the leg line was great and the tush perky!

Jeans from left to right: David Kahn Trouser $245, Fidelity Denim Octavia $188, 7 for all Mankind Ginger $199

So which did I choose? The 7 for all Mankind. They were so comfortable I didn't want to take them off.

I am now glad that I went in and admitted I wanted a jean that wasn't skinny and got something that I will wear all year long.

I am already planning a trip back to Body Blue Denim Lab for the same pair in another wash, perhaps LA Dark. I am hooked.

AG Tomboy Jean Body Blue Denim LabUPDATE - I went back to Body Blue for a second pair of the 7jeans I got the first time around. Unfortunately because skinny jeans are dominating most jean companies these days the Gingers were all sold out and wouldn't be back in stock for some time.

So with the help of a stylist at the Danforth location I found a flattering alternative with a pair of AG Tomboy jeans. I even went with a lighter wash that I have chosen in some time.

If you are looking for some help with jeans I highly suggest checking out either Body Blue location.

Body Blue has two locations, one in West Queen West and one on the Danforth.
