Blackbird Vintage Finds; home decor, gifts &
accessories.
Blackbird Vintage Finds is right at home in the
historic Distillery District.
A mix of vintage and new, browsing this shop is like stepping back
through time.
Owner Paula DiRenzo is an expert at picking found objects that can find
new life as an accent in your home.
Blackbird Vintage is part architectural salvage, part antique store and
part gift boutique.
It is the type of store that home decor buffs and vintage junkies will
love but has something for those who like new items that have an old
timey feel.
There were so many things that caught my eye, vintage lights, subway
signs, ornate mirrors and apothecary stands. Even signs like the Sunday
School sign shown above and another from the Niagara region.
There are also many letters around the store; some are salvage like the
marquee lights, others like the smaller letters are new.
Soaps from Portugal caught my senses as did the soy candles. Necklaces
from Toronto's Biko are a perfect fit for the shop.
The location in the Distillery District is an obvious draw for tourists
but the shop has also attracted a number of celebrities.
Everyone from Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace to Susan Sarandon to former
Soap Opera stars have spent time shopping at Blackbird Vintage.
What I like about the area is that it allows me to feel like a tourist
in my own city and shops like this keep me coming back to the
Distillery District.
Blackbird Vintage is in Building 57, next door to the Bodum store in
the main thoroughfare of the Distillery District.
