Many people look to save money on maternity clothes because you wear them for such a short period of time.

But finding bargain maternity clothes can be hard.

Even chain stores seem expensive when you factor in the quality of the clothes and the cost per wear.

There are ways to find cheap maternity clothes even if they aren't being sold in boutiques.

Buy Used

A sure fire way to find cheaper maternity clothes is to buy second hand. You can even find designer maternity clothes at a fraction of the cost.

The problem is where to find used maternity clothes. Many vintage or second hand clothing stores don't stock maternity!

Try looking at children's second hand stores in your local area. There will be those that have a maternity section as well. Two in Toronto are Little Bird Fly and Play n Wear.

The other option is to go online. Check out ebay or kijiiji for listings selling used maternity clothes. A even better bet is to shop at a online maternity resale shop like Second Peek Maternity.

Some designers cut their clothes to accomodate a growing belly even though they are not specifically designing maternity clothes.

Maternity friendly is a great way to get the cost per wear way down because you can wear these clothes AFTER you are pregnant.

Look for tops with ruching, drape, lenth in the torso and streatch. All of these will help accomodate a growing belly.

Maternity boutiques are stocking more and more maternity friendly items.

Another solution to finding bargain maternity clothes is to watch for sales. Sign up for newsletters from your favourite boutiques and you can be ready to spend when their merchandise gets marked down.

Beware however sales might not correspond with when you actually need the clothing so don't waste your money on something that won't fit at 8 months pregnant or you only end up wearing once.  That is definitely not a bargain.

Fast Fashion Maternity

Fast fashion houses like H&M, Forever 21 and Old Navy do in fact have small maternity sections in their Toronto stores. These are great places to shop trendy clothing that fits your pregnancy shape on the cheap.

While shopping at Old Navy I picked up tees for $4 and a skirt for $12. The beauty of shopping these large retailers is that there is ALWAYS something on sale.
