Artscape Toronto; The Casegoods Warehouse Studios &
Shops
Artscape Toronto Casegoods Warehouse is home to
63 work and retail studios as well as offices, rehersal and performance
space for artists that range form entrepreurs to not for profit
performing arts studios.
The ground floor houses the retail studios of a number of artists and
is an extension of the retail enviornment of the Distillery District.
The retail portion of the Casegoods Warehouse is home to a varried
array of artistic entrepreurs that sell everything from handbags,
repurposed clothing, handblown glass beads and handknit accessories.
Everytime I walk into the Casegoods Warehouse studios I am immediately
drawn straight into Tank, a jewellery and bead store where owner and
artist Amy Johnson creates her own glass beads.
As someone who has been known to make her own jewellery, I really enjoy
looking at all the amazing beads and imagining what I could create.
Tank also offers classes in bead making like beginner fireworking for
those who are interested in the artform beyond simply stringing beads.
As you walk in if you go to
your left there are a few galleries for those looking for wall art.
If you are however more interested in accessories head to the right.
First you will pass Lillith, once a Queen West staple, now working and
selling in the Distillery District. Lillith makes clothing from new and
used fabric and knits.
Keep going and you will find Hoi Bo, a fixture at the One of a Kind
Show, this team makes gorgeous handbags and satchels.
Further
still to the right are the designs by Jenny Greco.
I absolutely loved her mixed use of wood and metal in her jewellery
especially her statement rings.
The last place I always visit is Millicent Vee knits.
If you like to have hand knit accessories for the winter I highly
suggest checking out her selection. Lots of cute chunky knit hats and
scarves.
The Artscape studios retail hours at the Casegoods Warehouse are from
noon to 5pm Wednesday to Sunday.
